Got a Habit? You Can Break It!
Habits. Those annoying little things that we must act upon so we can get it out of our system. But these urges to do something never goes away, in fact, it increase over time and strengthens with use. Is it a battle which no one can win? Of course it isn't! You can beat your habit!
Sorry for all the yelling. But, you really can beat your habit, and you can stop the urges to act on a certain habit from forming. First let's take a look at what the certain habit does in the brain. I promise I will make it as interesting as possible, so you will not fall asleep, and I will dictate it in a precise manner so that we can both get through this together. So, are you ready? Well, let's go. The brain, in all its complexity, has very simple processes at times (or at least its pretty simple to explain these processes; I get mixed up sometimes). Whenever we perform a specific task, a part in our brain physically grows more cells, dendrites and gray matter to associate with that task. The more we perform the task, the bigger that part of the brain grows. Pretty cool, huh? This is caled neuroplasticity. It refers to the brain as being "plastic" and changing its shape over the course of our lifetime. Now I always wondered what would happen if we continued doing a task over and over again, if our brains would grow so big that our heads weren't able to sit on top of our necks. However, I have completely grown out of that immaturaty, and have realized, with much research, that as soon as this task becomes second nature to us, the brain part stops growing and "cements" it as a learned trait or characteristic. This is not good news for bad habits. Whenever we continue to act on a bad habit, it grows, more and more in our brains. Then, at a certain point, it finally stops growing, and our brains accept it as a personality trait! This means the habit is now a part of us, like a birthmark or the color or our hair (if we don't die it). However other research has shown that we can weaken this habit by "replacing" it with a new habit. There are bad habits and there are good habits, and the best way to replace a bad habit is with a good habit. So, whenever you realize you have a bad habit of eating your toenails (just an example; a pretty gross one), you notice the point in your day when you have the urge the eat your toenails. Then, when that urge comes around, you quickly replace the almost acted upon bad habit with a good habit of, say, eating a carrot or celery stick. Or perhaps some broccoli. Some sort of vegetable. Or maybe a fruit. Anyway, you get the point. You replace that bad habit with a good one, right before you act on the bad habit. This will weaken the bad habit every time, and the urge to do something you do not like will be replaced with the urge of doing something that is good and beneficial for you. You can also accomplish getting rid of a a bad habit in hypnosis, or using a sublimina program to redirect your thoughts away from performing your habit, and building strength and confidence in your self. I believe both hypnosis and subliminal should be combined with the technique above, to get maximum benefits, but that is only my personal opinion. Hopefully this information has been helpful in helping you relieve yourself of some very unwanted habits that have been bothering you in your life. Try self hypnosis if you really want to beat a habit, as it seems to work pretty well. The reason why it does, I do not know, but you can find out for yourself by performing self hypnosis.
