Hypnotize Your Friends!

How to Hypnotize Others

“How can I hypnotize others?”is a question that often gets asked by others who are wanting to entertain others, control others with their mind power, influence people, make people quack like a duck, and so on and so forth.

You are probably on this page because you have also asked this question, and you desperately want to know how to control that girl or guy, or get your best friend to take all their clothes off and dance on the table (I'm just guessing!).

The truth is, and I'm afraid some of you are not going to like the answer I give, is that you can't control someone else. You can't interfere with another's free will with hypnosis. Everyone has a subconscious mind that is there to protect them from outside threats or commands. If your mind doesn't want to do something, or finds it immoral or embarrassing, you won't do it.

But what about the people on stage who get hypnotized to do those silly things the hypnotist tells them? More often than not, the person is chosen by a hypnotist who already knows that person has been on stage before. Also, many people don't want to embarrass a hypnotist during a show, by saying it doesn't work, so they will go along with the suggestions and act as if they have no clue what went on afterward.

Now this doesn't mean you can make your friends or relatives do fun things while under hypnosis. You can make their hands or fingers stick together, or their eyes close shut, and make their tongue fall out of of their mouths, and many other things that will lightly entertain and brighten a party.

You might also want to learn how to hypnotize others so that you can help them overcome a problem or anxiety, to help them stop a bad habit, become confident, love themselves, quit smoking, release anger or stress, etc. All you have to do is:

  1. Perform an Induction

  2. Elicit words, images, commands and/or suggestions

  3. Bring them safely out of trance

Let's go through all these points, step by step:

1. A hypnosis induction is basically a relaxation technique. This will allow your subject to become fully relaxed and at ease. When we are relaxed, suggestions pass the critical mind and are completely accepted and embedded within the subconscious mind. This is where powerful change and magic starts to happen

      • Simply ask them to allow themselves to become relaxed. Let them breathe in and out, slowly and deeply, for any number of times. This will give them oxygen to their brain and slow down their brain waves. The slower the brain waves, the deeper the trance. Trance is the state you want them in, so you can implant messages and suggestions (however, if the messages are not for their best interests, they will automatically end the hypnosis session on their own). You may also let them imagine every muscle in their body relaxing, in a sequence. So, perhaps from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet, or from the bottom of their feet to the top of their head. You can also tell them to allow themselves to drift and float down, deeper and deeper, and perhaps let them imagine themselves drifting and floating, and descending down (on a cloud, staircase, Alice's tunnel, etc.).

2. Now it is time to embed suggestions, commands, imagery and words. They are now in a state where the subconscious mind is open and receptive to new beliefs and ideas, and your subject is now hypnotized. A word of warning: Anything said to try and make a person do something against their will, or their moral inclinations, will be automatically shot down, and will ruin the entire session. Not to mention you might have an upset subject.

  • If you are using words and suggestions to create change, always say things as if they are in the present tense. For example, if you are hypnotizing someone to stop smoking, then you will say, “You are a non-smoker, and you love feeling healthy, and breathing in clear, fresh air.” This way the mind acutally engages with the imagery you have created, and will take on the belief that it is healthy, and that the subject is a non-smoker. If you simply say, “Don't smoke,” the mind will not engage in anything, and the suggestion will be a wasted one.

  • You can also have them imagine themselves as being cigarette free (or whatever it is you are hypnotizing them for). You will want to, again, engage their mind within that visualization. You will want to ask them to fully experience what it feels like to be a different person (or whatever it is you are hypnotizing them for), what smells they perceive, what they can touch or taste, what they can hear, etc. By fully engaging their mind in all the senses, their brains will accept the visualization as a real occurrence, and the deeper and fuller the visualization, and the incorporation of the senses, the more likely success will follow.

  • Also, to create a deeper change within the subject, after they have received the visualization and/or suggestions, create a trigger. A trigger in hypnosis is something that the person can do throughout the day to help grow and establish the suggestions and new beliefs even further. So perhaps you can say, “Now I want you to make a fist with your right hand. Squeeze that fist even harder. Now whenever you want a cigarette (or whatever the subject is trying to accomplish), you squeeze your right hand, and healthy thoughts and images will flood your mind.” Of course you can tailor it to your subject's need.

3. Finally, after the session is over, you can bring them out of trance. This will “seal the deal” and wind up the session. By “sealing the deal”, I mean it will help cement and instill all the suggestions you planted, making them become learned beliefs (and with anything learned, we all use; so, learned beliefs are a good way to help facilitate change).

  • Before you take them out of trance, tell them to thank the power of their mind, and to ask their mind to fully instill all the suggestions and images they have heard and experienced. Ask them to ask their mind to grow these beliefs everyday.

  • To bring them out of trance, you can count down, slowly, from 10 to 1, and say that with each number, their bodies become more alive, renewed and refreshed. And with each number energy moves throughout your arms and legs. On the number 1, ask them to open their eyes, and tell them they are renewed, refreshed and awake.

Well there you have it. A complete step to step guide on how to hypnotize others. It is really easy once you get the hang of it, and if you are really interested in hypnosis, you can even make a career out of it!

Here is a great free hypnosis video that teaches you how to entertain families, friends, and strangers with hypnosis. It's really simple to do, and it actually does work quite a bit. It is taught by a friend of mine, Wendi Friesen. If you haven't heard of her, please visit her site, as she also gives you information about hypnosis, hypnotherapy, and the power of changing your life. You can also read my review on her hypnosis tapes and CDs.
