How to Hypnotize Yourself

Have people told you that you need to find a hypnotherapist in order to be truly hypnotized? Well, I'm here to dispel that myth for what it really is—a lie. You DON'T need a hypnotherapist, CD, hypnosis download, or anything of the like to start changing the way you think and act. All you need is YOU.


A hypnotherapist, or a CD that guides you through trance, sessions and imagery is very helpful, especially for beginners who are wanting a quick and easy change within their lives. However, some people like to go beyond the CD, beyond the therapist, and try to hypnotize themselves.


There are many factors one must consider before using self hypnosis, all of which I will direct here in a clear and concise manner. Also, I would like to point out that just because you don't use a hypnosis CD or a hypnotherapist, doesn't mean that all your efforts in self hypnosis go unacknowledged by your subconscious mind. Quite the contrary!


In fact, hypnotherapists, hypnosis CDs and subliminal programs are all tools that help facilitate change. Say that sentence again to yourself, so you can better understand it. This means that ultimately it is YOU who are seeking the change within yourself, and it is YOU who is wanting to change something in your life. A hypnotherapist or hypnosis CD is only a tool to help facilitate that change and catapult you into a new world of living much more quickly.


There is a place in hypnosis and self hypnosis called a trance. This state is merely a state of complete relaxation. You will feel your mind float and drift down, and all thoughts and worries will disappear from your mind, safely and easily. This is the state where imagery is created, thoughts and beliefs are embedded, and suggestions are given.


Because your mind is in that deep, relaxed state, it will take any suggestions you feed it. This is because when you are fully awake and active, your critical mind is also alive and ready to shoot down anything new, including beliefs and suggestions. So, by allowing your body to relax, and allowing your brain to slip down, easily and comfortably, your mind becomes open and receptive to the embedded “commands” and suggestions.


Now, if you are wanting to hypnotize yourself, and utilize the power of self hypnosis, there are __ steps you must follow:


1. Make sure you will not be disturbed

  • If you finally find yourself in the trance state, where change is faciltated at a deep level, and someone slams open the door to your room, all your hard work might have been depleted. Your mind will become quickly distracted, and you will have to start all over again, trying to get yourself in that trance state once again. Always make sure you will never be disturbed in your hypnosis sessions.

2. Close your eyes and take a deep breath.

  • By closing your eyes, you send a signal to your brain that you are ready to go within. This is a learned signal that you have repeated, over and over again, to your mind when you go to sleep at night. You close your eyes so you can sleep and go within (dream). Also, by taking a deep breath in, and a deep breath out, you start relaxing your body and your mind (and relaxation is key!).

3. Relaxation is Key! (Didn't I already say that?)

  • By relaxing your body, you relax your mind, which opens your brain and makes it more receptive to suggestions. This is often called a hypnotic induction, or hypnosis induction, and many, many exist. Try relaxing your body by focusing on your breathing. Taking deep breaths in through your nose, and full breaths out through your mouth. You can also imagine every muscle in your body completely relaxing, from the top of your head, to the bottom of your toes. Or, you can do it the opposite way. It really doesn't matter. Just as long as you relax.

4. Once you are done relaxing, you find yourself in trance.

  • Once your mind arrives in that trance state, you may not feel any different than before you started. You may feel more relaxed and at ease, but you aren't going to hear any strange sounds, or experience any vivid hallucinations that can only be achieved through psychosomatic drugs. Don't worry! Just because you only feel “relaxed”, doesn't mean you are not in a trance state. A trance is just another word for relaxation, and once you are relaxed, you are in trance.

5. Suggestions

  • Now that you have established the trance state, and the complete relaxation of your whole body (this could take anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes), it is now time to start creating change! You can do this any way you like. Some people like to start repeating words to themselves, thus embedding new, empowering beliefs to themselves. However, you want to say the beliefs or the things you want to manifest in their present tense. The mind will only manifest something that you say in present tense. So for example, if you want to manifest love, you will say, “I have a deep, romantic love that surrounds me with unspeakable and undescribable ecstasy.” Your mind will make all the connections it needs to fulfill that new belief, and will create actions that you will take, many times without you knowing it, to attract the love you desire.

    • You can also imagine what you want, by using detailed imagery. This will engage your mind, and create a future memory. When you create a future memory, your mind will accept it as a regular memory, as the mind can't tell the difference between the two. You must incorporate all the five senses within that visualization, so your mind can fully experience that “memory” as true and real. This will then allow your mind to find connections and avenues to support that memory, and make it manifest.

    • Also, if you want to find out why something is bothering you, or to go into your past, as in past life regression, you can imagine yourself floating back into your past, telling your mind to find the time in your past where said problem started. You can imagine clocks going backwards, calendars all around you flipping backwards through the days, months, years, and even centuries. Whatever you want to do, your mind is smart enough to find the answer to your question.

6. Your Finished!

  • It is now time to come back to the world around you (even though it feels so good to be in this moment!) and to thank your mind for the wonderful experience. You can also tell your mind to expand and cement all the suggestions and images you embedded, into your subconscious mind, for absolute and powerful change.

  • To come out of trance, and to find yourself back in the real world, you may want to start counting backwards, from 10 to 1, and tell yourself that with each number, your body will become more energized and awake. When you reach the number one, you will be wide awake and completely refreshed and renewed (and boy, will you ever!).

 

There is your easy guide to self hypnosis. Whatever works for YOU, is what you need, and it isn't bad to try anything and everything when it comes to changing your life, and living the way you know you deserve.
